WHO IS TAKING YOUR X-RAY?
In Idaho, ANYONE can!
Did you know…..
Idaho is one of only four states that does not require any formal education or certification standards for individuals who take x-rays or administer medical radiation.
Establishing licensure standards will:
- Improve the quality of images for diagnosis and treatment. Poor quality imaging can lead to misdiagnoses, additional testing, delays in treatment, and increased radiation exposure.
- Reduce patient exposure to radiation by minimizing repeat examinations. Radiation exposure is cumulative over a lifetime. “Deleting” an x-ray from an electronic health record does not
delete the radiation exposure delivered to the patient. - Promote safe practices and improve patient care in x-ray, medical imaging, and radiation therapy procedures.
The Idaho Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Protection Act – (House Bill 0325) was allowed to be printed for the recent legislative session. Please review and send any comments to any Board member.
